Travelodge UK is known as Travelodge Hotels Limited and is a separate company from the Travelodge that runs in America. Travelodge UK has 32, 600 bedrooms in the UK which make it the biggest hotel chain in the United Kingdom. It is also second largest in the budget hotel sector (after the Premier Inn). The hotels are notoriously basic but great value and are a popular choice for travellers who need to make an overnight stay due to their convenience and electronic check in and out the system. Travelodge have generally been successful and seen significant earnings since it first opened – completing a successful refurb and overhauling their image in 2012. However, in 2006 the company found itself under fire from BBC’s Watchdog due to their habit of overbooking rooms which meant that guests were turned away if they arrived late to check in. They now state this on their website that this may occur and if it does they will do their best to accommodate guests in a nearby Travelodge at no extra cost (although this is not guaranteed). As the hotels are built for convenience there may not be any eating or drinking facilities available in the hotel but they are often located next to a Harvester, Toby Carvery or in a motorway service station. If you need to contact the Travelodge head office helpline you can do so by calling.
