About Thames Water
Thames Water are the UK’s largest Water and Waste Water provider. It is estimated that they supply around 2, 600 million litres of tap water to homes both in London and the Thames Valley. It is a private utility company that is responsible for the Water Supply of the majority of London. It was first established in early 17th century, although it had a number of other company names before it became Thames Water in 1973 (full name: The Thames Water Authority). In 1989 it was privatised as Thames Water Utilities Limited. It has over 100 water treatment works.
If you live in London or the surrounding area, then the water you get in your home will be provided by Thames Water. You can view all of their responsibilities and services on the Thames Water website. There are a certain number of actions that can be performed when using the Thames Water website such as informing Thames Water if you have a noticed a leak in your home or on your street. In instances such as this, there is an online form on the Thames Water website that you will need to fill out, reporting whereabouts the leak is and the extent of the leak (trickling to major burst). You can find out exactly what is happening in your area in terms of road and waterworks, and whether you will be affected. Advice on tackling leakage can also be found on the Thames Water website. They do warn that a lot of the pipes under the streets of London have been around for over 150 years and so when there is a leak or something goes wrong, the pipes have to be completely replaced rather than simply maintained. Thames Water explains on their website how they have come a long way since privatisation and have invested over £11 bn on improving their infrastructure. Thames Water list expert plumbers on their website that are on hand to help, when you sign up for Plumbing & Drainage Plus, which will be administered to you by HomeServe. With this insurance cover, your home will be protected against unexpected cost as well as the inconvenience of blocked drains, dripping taps and burst water pipes. Plumbing cover starts from 50p per month. Only homeowners can apply for this insurance, please call the helpline for more information.
