Questions people are asking about Primark
Who are Primark’s competitors?
Primark’s main competitors are other high street fashion brands such as New Look, H&M and River Island, as well as the likes of Matalan and Asda.
Why Primark don’t sell online
Primark doesn’t sell online simply because the price point for the products is so low that they wouldn’t turn a profit as they would have to factor in shipping costs, distribution costs and returns. Primark also relies on high visitor numbers in their stores – something that would be affected by an online e-commerce site.
Primark was first founded in 1969 in Dublin, Ireland. It was opened under the name Penneys and the first UK store opened in Derby in 1973. However, the company couldn’t use the name Penneys due to a trademark by the company J.C. Penney, so they chose the name Primark.
Back in 2011, the first Primark concession opened in Selfridges and it is now stocked in Selfridges Manchester Trafford Centre, London and Birmingham.
