BT Broadband

There are different broadband packages available depending on how much internet you will use and your individual budget. The Everyday broadband deal has speeds of up to 17mb with a monthly usage limit of 12GB. If you prefer unlimited usage, the Unlimited Broadband package is for you. If you prefer faster speeds, upgrade to BT’s fibre broadband- Infinity 1 has speeds of up to 52mb and is available with a limit of 25GB or unlimited, depending on your needs. Infinity 2 is unlimited and has speeds of up to 76MB. With each package, you will get a BT Smart Hub which gives your home a powerful wifi signal. The contracts are 12 months long and each has a set-up fee to cover the cost of an engineer visiting your home to get everything installed.

All of the BT TV packages uses BT broadband, so you will need fibre broadband to subscribe to BT TV. The Starter package has 80 channels. The entertainment starter package has 100 channels and the Total Entertainment package has 139 channels, the ability to record 600 hours of TV and kids TV. You can personalise your TV package by adding Netflix, Sky Cinema, Sky Sports and BT Music if you wish.

About BT

BT was first founded in 1969 after the General Post Office (previously in charge of all British telecommunications) became a public corporation. British Telecom was formed in 1980 and it became independent of the Post Office a year later. The company was privatised in 1984 and shares were sold.

Today there are several BT subsidiaries such as the BT Consumer Division which supplies broadband, TV and landline services. The company has around 18 million customers. Back in 2015, it was announced that BT would purchase EE for over £12 billion. However, the deal was subject to intense scrutiny from the Competition and Markets Authority and was only approved in January 2016. The majority of the company’s profits come from the Openreach division of the company which oversees the UK’s copper infrastructure. The company employs over 100,000 people.
