About British Gas

British Gas is an energy supplier based in the UK and is a subsidiary of Centrica. British Gas was first established as a private company in 1986 and is today known as the UK’s biggest energy supplier. It is a part of the ‘big six’ which are the six companies that dominate the gas and electricity market. In April 2016 they announced that they would be closing one of their major call centres, situated in the West Midlands. This closure saw the loss of around 680 jobs in total and caused great controversy.

British Gas UK

British Gas are a trustworthy supplier of energy to your home and you can view their range of tariffs directly from their website. If you are joining British Gas for the first time, you can choose a tariff that is best suited to you and your home. By following the ‘View our Tariffs’ link, you can get a list of what British Gas can offer you as a new customer. The Standard (Variable) tariff offers variable pricing that will move up and down depending on the market, is available to pay as you go (smart meter) customers, there are no exit fees should you choose to leave the contract and you will receive a £15 dual fuel discount. With the HomeEnergy capped fixed term contract you will receive a fixed price that is guaranteed not to increase (but may decrease), the £15 discount agreed on the previous tariff and there will be an exit fee of £20 per fuel. This tariff will promise fixed prices up until November 2017. Last of all is the HomeEnergy fixed up until November 2018 tariff which sees prices staying the same, even if they rise for variable customers, again there is an exit fee of £20 per fuel and a £15 dual fuel discount. If you want to know which is the best tariff for you, you can receive a quote online or you can call the British Gas helpline.

British Gas Homecare

British Gas have a range of homecare products to ensure that you are getting the most out of your energy services. Like their tariffs, there are a few options when it comes to homecare cover. The options range from HomeCareOne which for just £10 per month you will receive an annual boiler service as well as boiler and controls that protects you from future charges should your boiler break down. For the maximum payment of £17.50 per month (currently discounted from £19.50), you can be protected by the HomeCare Four cover which has all of the possible additions with British Gas including Annual Boiler service, boiler and controls, central heating, drains and plumbing and home electricity. In between these prices are HomeCare 2 and HomeCare 3. Visit the British Gas website if you would like to compare the different covers and choose one that is right for you. Don’t forget to read the terms and conditions linked to HomeCare cover before you purchase.

British Gas Boiler Service

All of British Gas HomeCare covers offer an annual service on your boiler to make sure it is working as it should be. Depending on the insurance that you pay for, you will also be covered if your boiler breaks down. If you are having issues with your boiler you must contact British Gas either online or at the helpline and they will arrange for a service man to come out and take a look at the issue. British Gas cannot give a specific time when they will arrive at your home but will give you an idea in a two-hour time slot. You can track the whereabouts of British Gas on the app so that you can make sure you are home when they arrive. If you have missed British Gas coming to look at your boiler, please call the helpline to rearrange. If you have a complaint about a service you have received from British Gas, the helpline can help you to resolve your issue.

British Gas Smart Meter

There are many benefits to having a smart meter installed in your home, one being that in the long run, it can save you a significant amount of money. At British Gas, you can choose to have a smart meter installed in your home, but first it is worth reading all of the information they supply about smart meters and why it is worth making the switch today. Smart Meters are a way of viewing how much energy you are using, as you use it. The digits will be displayed on the meter itself, via the electronic display. This is a great way of seeing if you are using too much energy and actively encouraging yourself and your family to use less. You will always have an idea of what your next bill will be, so it is easier to ensure that you budget correctly. As well as this, you will know that you have definitely received an accurate bill because your readings are constantly evaluated, rather than receiving an estimated bill as you may do on a regular tariff. Enquire today if you would like to upgrade to a smart meter, and, get in touch if you are an existing smart meter customer that is having issues.
